Exterior dryer vent cover Installation

Exterior dryer vent covers play a major role in airflow, dryer performance, lint buildup prevention, and protecting the vent line from outside conditions. Plastic vent covers commonly sold for dryer vent applications often suffer from sticking louvers, weak dampers, restrictive designs, and lint accumulation around moving parts. American Dryer Vent replaces outdated dryer vent covers with premium metal covers designed for better airflow, stronger construction, and more reliable long-term performance.

Plastic Exterior Vent Covers With Louvers

Plastic exterior vent covers with louvers are commonly sold and marketed for dryer vent applications at home improvement stores, but they can create airflow problems over time. The louvers can stick shut, fail to open fully during dryer operation, or become stuck open afterward. Because of the design, the louvers split up the exhaust opening and create additional areas where lint can collect as it exits the vent line. Plastic is also a rougher material, which allows lint buildup to stick and accumulate more easily. A large majority of the bird nests we find inside dryer vents are associated with these types of vent covers because birds can easily manipulate the lightweight louvers with their beaks to gain access into the vent line. We also regularly find louvers that have fallen out completely, leaving the vent line more exposed. Unlike the premium vent covers we install, plastic louvers are more prone to airflow restrictions and long-term wear.

Plastic Exterior Vent Covers With Dampers

Plastic exterior vent covers with dampers are commonly sold for dryer vent applications, but the thin plastic dampers often fail to close properly even when new. Birds can also easily get their beaks underneath the lightweight flap and lift it open. As the plastic wears, the damper typically closes less and less, causing the opening to become larger over time. We also regularly find dampers that have fallen out completely, leaving the vent line fully exposed. Premium metal vent covers provide a more durable and reliable vent termination option.

Exterior Vent Covers With Screens

Exterior vent covers with screens are another restrictive exterior dryer vent cover style we find during inspections and replacements. Although these screens may seem helpful for keeping pests out of the vent line, they trap lint very aggressively compared to other covers. Screens are a code violation and a major source of airflow restriction at the exterior vent opening. Screened vent covers can also attract bees and other insects because the screen creates a more sheltered area around the vent opening.

Roof Dryer Vents

Roof dryer vents are another type of exterior dryer vent cover we inspect and replace. Unlike wall vents, roof vents are much harder for homeowners to visually monitor, which allows airflow restrictions and lint buildup around the roof vent opening to go unnoticed more easily. Many roof dryer vents commonly sold at home improvement stores include built-in screens designed to keep pests out, but these screens trap lint very aggressively and are a code violation for dryer vent applications. Roof vents with built-in screens can also attract bees and other insects because they create a more sheltered area around the roof vent opening. The professional-grade roof dryer vents we install are designed for better airflow without using restrictive built-in screens, helping reduce unnecessary airflow restriction and lint accumulation around the roof vent opening.

Upgrading your exterior dryer vent cover can help improve airflow, reduce unnecessary restrictions, and provide better long-term durability compared to many commonly sold vent covers. We install high-quality exterior dryer vent covers designed for efficient airflow and reliable performance.
